Deccan Herald had on Tuesday reported that at least 40 of the 75 doctors on deputation from the Health and Family Welfare Department to the BBMP, had exceeded their tenure and had defied a Government Order to be repatriated to the parent department.

At the meeting, it was learnt that the BBMP was able to convince the chief minister and the State government in allowing the continuation of the doctors in their current posting for the next three months, till the Palike hires its own personnel as replacement.

Speaking to Deccan Herald, BBMP Commissioner Siddaiah said the Palike has already set in motion the recruitment of 62 doctors as replacements, for the loss of the 40 doctors who have exceeded their deputation period.

“We agree to the fact that the doctors have overstayed and exceeded their prescribed tenure. Unfortunately, they are presently required as stand-in, till we recruit our own doctors. We have been able to convince the chief minister of the issue and he has agreed to it,” said Siddaiah.

Sceptical of the entire repatriation process, the Health Department officials said the maximum time frame allotted to the BBMP to send the the doctors back to their parent department has been one month.

“We do understand that the BBMP is recruiting replacement doctors through walk-in interviews, and this may take some time. We are expecting our doctors to come back in the next couple of months,” said a senior health official, privy to the meeting.
