Govt to recast Air India board within a month

 
Civil aviation minister Praful PatelReferring to the state carrier at length at a meeting held to announce the second international exhibition and conference on civil aviation in Hyderabad from March 3 to 7, 2010 in Hyderabad, Patel said AI would be restructured financially and organisationally.

“The Ministry of Civil Aviation has lined up a series of initiatives to revamp the top management of the national carrier and shore up its finances. We will bring about transformational changes in the management of the airline from the top,” he remarked.

“We will bring in independent directors, have a professional Chief Operating Officer to assist the CMD and appoint an international advisory agency,” he added.

He, however, said the government cannot help the cash-strapped national carrier “beyond a point” and asked it to change its work culture.
