Critical locations to get railway security

The Integrated Security System facility to ensure security and safety of passengers will soon be provided at Bangalore City, Yeshwanthpur and Mysore City railway stations, said SWR General Manager Kuldeep Chaturvedi.

Speaking after inaugurating the 56th Railway Week Celebrations of Headquarters in Hubli, he said the SWR was forerunner among other zones in initiating measures to ensure passenger safety and security.

“Steps have been taken to improve security in trains and at stations.  Closed Ciruit Televisions (CCTVs) have been installed at 11 important stations at important railway stations. The project to provide Integrated Security System at Bangalore City,  Yeshwanthpur and Mysore City railway is in full swing which will be completed at the earliest,” he said.

The SWR has maintained an impeccable record in the area of safety in train operations.  Special emphasis has been given for improving the safety at level crossings. As many as 28 level crossing gates were closed by providing railway over/under bridges, he added.

 The process to fill up 4701 vacancies in Group D staff category was in progress. The new recruits were likely to report for the duty by year end as the entire recruitment process would be completed within December this year. The SWR took up various energy conservation measures.  As a result of, 7.3 million units of energy was saved which resulted in saving of Rs 3.92 crore, he stated.

The SWR carried 171.95 million passengers and registered an increase of 11.18 per cent over the previous year.  Six new pairs of trains were introduced, services of two trains were extended and two pairs of trains were delinked to run as separate trains, he added.

Chaturvedi presented efficiency shields to Major (Mysore station) and Minor (Dharmapuri on Bangalore Division) for best maintained stations.

He also presented individual awards with cash, meritorious certificate and a medal to 143 railway employees (including 16 officers) of headquarters, all  the three divisions, workshops and diesel sheds, field staff  and 19 Efficiency Shields.
