Laghman province is located near the Afghanistan-Pakistan border. "I can confirm there was an explosion near the army garrison in Gambiray area of Laghman province this morning at around 7.30 a.m. local time, there might be casualties," Xinhua quoted Hatiffi, an army press officer, as saying.
Hatiffi said the area was cordoned off by army personnel and an investigation was under way. Provincial police chief of Kandahar province Khan Mohammad Mujahid was killed Friday when a suicide bomber in police uniform targeted the police department in Kandahar city, the provincial capital of Kandahar province. Two other police officials were also killed in the powerful blast.
