Women's rights lost in guise of equality: ZP member

She was addressing a gathering at the anniversary of Bharatha Matha Mahila Maha Sangha, a federation of Stree Shakti organisations in taluk, at Gayathri Kalyana Mantap in Gudibande on Monday.

The programme was organised by DGP organisation, Chennai and Vahini Abhivruddhi Samsthe.

She called upon women to channelise their income sources to a productive venture through self-help groups. “Economic independence help them to be aware of their rights,”she added.

Utilising government benefits would be advantageous for them, she added.

Town Panchayat member Asha Jayappa pointed out that banks promise to help women to raise loan but they find it difficult to gather required documents for the loan. “Banks must simplify the procedure for women in needy,” she added. She also urged the self-help groups to sensitise their members about the process of availing loan and other bank procedures.

On the occasion, Lead Bank Manager Sundaresh explained various bank’s procedures to SHG members. Sangha president Lakshmi Narassamma presided. Taluk Panchayat president K Manjula, DGP organisation’s State co-ordinator Anusuya and others were present.
