Over 1 lakh historical documents, records digitised in J-K

"Over 1 lakh historical documents and records lying in these repositories have been digitized, so far, and rest is being also digitised in a phased manner in Jammu and Kashmir", Minister for Tourism and Culture N R Jora said at a function in the state Archives Department here.

"Archives is the lifeline of our past, present and future that needs to be preserved at all costs for future generation," he said.

The minister said effective steps have been initiated to digitise historical documents and records in three archives repositories of Srinagar, Jammu and Ladakh.

Referring to the steps being taken up by the government to restore and protect state's heritage sites, he said 38 monuments have been declared as protected and conservation of these structures is being taken up in a phased manner.
