In an animated avatar

POPULAR Katrina KaifAn animated character in the upcoming film ‘Crackers’ has been modelled upon the gorgeous Katrina Kaif. Called Kate, the character looks like Katrina and even her body language is inspired by the successful heroine. “Katrina is one actress who is loved by children as well as adults. And in animation too, she looks equally pretty. That is why my character of Kate is inspired by her,” says producer-director Anil Goyal.

‘Crackers’, set to release on May 20, is based on the terror attacks of 26/11 in Mumbai. Sexy and gusty Kate is the animated heroine, who takes on the terrorists along with her few friends namely Roxy, Gopu and Bolly. Making the lead character look like Katrina is like adding some more spice to the dish. Now when Katrina is all popular and climbing greater heights, watching her in an animated character will surely excite the audience.

The dubbing for the lead characters has been done by Nikhil Dwivedi and Smilie Suri.
The music for the film is by Dilip Sen and the songs have been rendered by singers like Shaan, Shreya Goshal, Hariharan, Pamela Jain, Raja Hasan, Jolly Mukherjee etc. The USP of the movie is the never-seen-before action sequences with 4D effects.

Losing his macho looks

Actor Ashish Chowdhry was recently in the news for the drool-worthy body that he has been working on for a few months. In fact, since the latest pictures of the actor have been published, he has been getting a lot of compliments from his friends and fans for his hot-bod.

But alas! As they say, all good things come to an end. The actor, who is currently shooting for Reliance Entertainment and Maruti International’s Double Dhamaal which is a sequel to the successful Dhamaal, has reportedly agreed to tone down his macho look for the movie!

News is that the actor is playing multiple characters, with different looks and costumes in this comic caper. One such character is where the actor will be seen playing a sassy woman trying to seduce the uber-cool Sanjay Dutt.

Now obviously, it would be difficult to pull of this seductress act with a macho body like Ashish’s. Thus it was the joint decision of director Indra Kumar and Ashish to tone down his body to look every bit of the sexy chic that he was supposed to play.

Double Dhamaal stars Sanjay Dutt, Arshad Warsi, Riteish Deshmukh, Ashish Chowdhry, Jaaved Jaaferi, Mallika Sherawat, Kangana Ranaut and Satish Kaushik and is slated for a mid 2011 release!

A film out of workshop

They were supposed to be weekends full of cinema and theatre workshops for students of his alma mater, but a year and a half down the line, screenplay writer Amole Gupte of Taare Zameen Par fame has a whole film, Stanley Ka Dabba, ready. “I didn’t plan a film at all. It started with a cinema and theatre session at Holy Family High School in Andheri — the school I went to as a child. The way I do cinema and theatre sessions at my Pali Chimbai Municipal School, I decided to do this in my school on Saturdays.”

“It’s not a children film. It’s essentially with children but it’s a universal film. The definition of a children’s film in India is, unfortunately, something very dumb, something that is very accessible,” said Gupte.

“Stanley Ka Dabba is about bonding, it’s about friendship, it’s about going back to your classroom and remembering your sweetheart teachers, your khadoos (strict) teachers, your best friends and the smell of the tiffin boxes when you open them in the recess. That’s the metaphor — bonding of children through a tiffin box.”

How did he get funding for the film? “It took me two years. I was doing only at the rate of around four and a half hours, that too on Saturdays. Rest of the days I was investing in looking at the materials, writing other stuff, trying to act in other people’s films so that I could fund this one as I have produced it. I funded it for peanuts. It’s a very cheap film,” said Gupte.

There were 170 Holy Family students who attended the workshop, while another 100 came and went. He had put up a concert for another school where 250 children performed. “I just shot the concert in a single take. None of the children had the faintest idea that they were being shot for a full-fledged film until they were shown it after completion,” says Gupte.

“I shot it very naturally, with no big set-ups, with a digital camera. There was nothing that would make you feel that you are in a film set. The children didn’t even know that a film was being made on their action. That’s why it’s such a precious film,” said Gupte. Keeping summer vacations in mind, Stanley Ka Dabba is set to release on May 13.

A musical dream come true

While most newcomers dream of singing with Lata Mangeshkar, who does the Indian
nightingale dream of singing with? Well, the answer is Mehdi Hassan and Lataji’s dream has finally turned into reality. She has pulled together the greats for an album, ‘Sarhadein — Music Beyond Boundaries’, which also features Mehdi Hassan.

Usha Mangeshkar, Ghulam Ali, Suresh Wadkar, Hariharan, Sonu Nigam and Rekha Bhardwaj are the other singers who will be singing in this album by Saregama with music composed by Mayuresh Pal.

An ecstatic Lata says, “I am happy that my dream of singing with the legendary singer Mehdi Hassan has come true. I had been wanting to sing with him for long but could not and now that I have got the opportunity, I am very happy.”

Putting her foot down

Actress Raveena Tandon recently walked out of the sets of a reality show when the script she was given had a few derogatory remarks against actresses Katrina Kaif and Priyanka Chopra.

According to sources, Raveena was dumbstruck by the development and apparently, walked out, bringing the day’s shooting to a stop.

Forever young

Ranbir Kapoor was in talks with a production house to play the role of the late singer-cum-actor Kishore Kumar in his official biopic.

He was the second choice after Aamir Khan, whose dates could not be sorted out. Now, RK too is distancing himself from the film.  After retrospection, he feels that he is too young to play the legendary singer-actor.
