Rajiv Kumar (22) and Dayanand (21) were apprehended from Mukundpur Chowk yesterday when they came there for delivering ganja to their contact, Ashok Chand, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime), said.

This is the second big haul of ganja being smuggled to Delhi from Orissa in the past 20 days. On March 30, police arrested four persons, including a 60-year-old man, from Samaipur Badli allegedly with 221 kg of ganja being smuggled from Orissa.

"The ganja was provided to them by one Vishal, a resident of Bihar and presently residing in Noida. The contraband was procured from Cuttack in Orissa.

"Ganja was given to them by Vishal at Noida and these two drug traffickers hired an autorickshaw to come Delhi for distribution at various parts of North-West and Outer Delhi," Chand said.

Vishal is absconding and efforts are on to apprehend him.

In 2011 alone, police has recovered over 600 kg of ganja. "The source of all this ganja is either from Cuttack, Puri or Sambal Pur in Orissa. Different transportation techniques were used for trafficking the ganja from Orissa to Delhi.

"The ganja is smuggled either through tankers or by use of luxury vehicles.  Sometimes, the gang members also used women as cover so that they give impression of being on a family trip to avoid checking," Chand said.

Rajiv Kumar came to Noida two years ago and joined the racket with Vishal for earning quick money while Dayanand, a tailor, came to Delhi about one and half years ago. He came in contact with Rajiv for earning quick money.
