Long pending: CEO Sundarnayak assures third party inspection

The women members took the officials to task for their failure to address this problem. The Babus were taken aback with women members criticising them. President K Rajeshwari and vice-president Siddaraju encouraged the members to ‘attack’ the officials.

Raising the issue, Chandrakalabai said people of  Kempaiahanadoddi village in Kollegal taluk are struggling hard to fetch a pot of water due to shortage of bore wells. The delay in sinking bore wells has hit the people. The ZP should take steps to sink a new bore well or change the agency to sink bore well. Supplying water through tankers was only a temporarily relief and she demanded permanent solution for this problem.

R Cauvery said residents of  Amachavadi, Basavapura, Doddamole, Byadamudlu and other villagers scolds her regularly for not solving drinking crisis. She was not in a position to reply villagers because of official’s negligence. G S Nitya said of overhead tank at Jalahallihundi is not ready and this has delayed supplying water from River Cauvery.
The CEO Sundarnayak said it was not possible to supply water from river Cauvery in the current situation. But, the ZP is ready to take up temporary measures in the affected villages.

Technical approval

Executive engineer of Zilla Panchayat Engineering Division R K Raju said technical approval has been given by the State Government to supply of drinking water to 133 villages in Gundlupet taluk and 166 villages in Chamarajanagar taluk. With this approval, the long pending demand of supplying to those villages would be fulfiled.

The ZP will prepare a plan to supply water to Kurattihosur and surroundings villages in Kollegal taluk. The work will be taken up in phased manner.

Third party inspection

The CEO said third party inspection would be conducted where developmental works are pending. It would start after the approval from the District Planning Committee. There are complaints about non-completion of overhead tanks, bore wells and installation of motors.

ZP member Eshwar alleged that CESC has failed to energise bore wells sunk at Martalli, Gopinatham and Male Mahadeshwara Hills. Besides, the works taken up under ‘Swajaladhare’ programme are not completed.

ZP sets deadline to finish works

Zilla Panchayat has set May as deadline for the engineering section and Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation (CESC) to complete all the pending drinking water schemes in the district.

This was decided at the general body meeting held in Chamarjanagar. Earlier, cutting across political affiliations, the members charged the officials of neglecting water supply schemes. Of the total 658 works taken up in 2010-11, still 82 works are pending.

The CESC officials said it was yet to energise 25 bore wells in Chamarajanagar taluk and 36 in Kollegal taluk.

Replying to this, President Rajeshwari directed the officials concerned to complete the works before May failing which she would recommend to the government to take action against them. Vice-president M Siddaraju also wanted the CESC to energise bore wells at the earliest.

Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer K Sundarnayak asked each Gram Panchayat to reserve at leastrs one lakh for drinking water supply and maintenance works out of ` six lakh released by the government. The role of GP was very important to do away with the problems of drinking water. Henceforth, the GPs should not depend on ZP to address drinking water problems.
