Jailed IAS officer fires salvo at Narendra Modi

Last Updated 25 April 2011, 18:56 IST

A 1994 batch IAS officer, Pradeep Sharma, who was arrested last year for his alleged involvement in a land scam in Bhuj alleged  that during the riots, while he was the Municipal commissioner in Jamnagar, he had received telephonic instructions from the Chief ministers office.

“I had received a phone call from the Chief Minister’s Office stating that I should ask my brother, IPS Kuldeep Sharma, then posted as IGP Ahmedabad Range, that he should abstain from taking any proactive measure in favour of the minorities,’’ wrote Pradeep.
Pradeep Sharma after his arrest had been alleging that he was being  framed in a corruption case by Modi government to discredit him and also to put pressure on his brother Kuldeep who was reportedly assisting the CBI in the Sohrabuddin fake encounter probe.
The state government however has rubbished these allegations and in fact  questioned the timing of the letter. “If he was privy to this information why did he conceal till now. Its been ten years and he never disclosed this. It is clear that the letter is politically motivated to discredit Modi government,’’ said a government officer.

The letter has come at a time when the Modi government was reeling under an explosive affidavit filed by senior IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt who has alleged that Modi in a law and order meeting on February 27, 2002 had ordered officials to go slow with the rioters.
Meanwhile, the SIT on Monday filed its final report on theriot case investigation and also probe against the Chief minister in the apex court. The report is expected to come up for hearing on Wednesday.
