Woman's body found in bag in Mumbai

The body was found early Monday in a local train on Platform No.3 of the Churchgate railway station.

“The woman, in her mid or late 20s, has not been identified yet. But it is a clear case of murder, as evident from the bruises on her neck,” Government Railway Police Commissioner Tukaram Chavan told reporters.

“The body had not decomposed yet, and hence, it might be possible that she was killed only a few hours before she was dumped in the train,” he added. The body has been sent for autopsy and a case of murder has been registered by the Churchgate railway police.

Six police teams have been formed to probe the case, and police are also carefully going through CCTV footages between Virar and Churchgate stations.

On March 15, the body of a pregnant woman, Rehmat Khan, was found abandoned in a suitcase on Mumbai’s Sandhurst Road railway station. Her husband and two brothers-in-law were arrested for the murder.

On March 10, a woman’s body was found stuffed in a suitcase on Mumbai’s Juhu beach. The woman has not been identified yet.
