The Department of Energy had appointed 450 gangmen to CESC on contract basis in 2007. The Government had removed them after the closure of the contract recently.

On Monday, the protesters began their protest march from Hemavathy circle to Deputy Commissioner’s Office after removing their shirts.

Traffic services was thrown out of gear when they blocked the highway.  Heated discussion took place between the police and protesters over the issue of holding protest on highway.

The protesters demanded the government to withdraw its decision of scrapping the contract and continue their services in the larger interest of protecting the welfare of their dependents.

Hundreds of families of gangmen are struggling hard to eke out living after they were removed from the service. They shouted slogans against Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa for his failure to keep his promise to reappoint them. They threatened  to intensify the protest if their demands are not met within few days.
