Advani marches into pre-quarters

In top form, the 25-year-old Bangalorean posted a 96-44, 129(129)-1, 72-5, 66-8 to register his third straight win in Group B, and boost his seeding for the last-16 draw. Advani did not have a match scheduled on Wednesday. Joining Advani in the knock-out stage were Karnataka’s IH Manudev, Aditya Mehta and Kamal Chawla.

While Manudev, returning to the international circuit after a long hiatus, held his nerve in wonderful fashion in scripting a battling 4-3 win over Syria’s Karam Fatima. Chawla trounced Pakistan’s Imran Shahzad 4-1 on Tuesday.

Aditya maintained his impressive showing, coasting past Philippines’ Alvin Ambatali Barbero 4-0 for his third win from as many matches on Monday night. Aditya, who won two medals in the Guangzhou Asian Games, was all over Barbero in the lop-sided contest, strengthening his case as a title contender. Manan Chandra and Lucky Vatnani are in danger of missing the cut after suffering their second losses. Chandra and Vatnani have one more match to play.
