The minister, who arrived at the hospital at 9 am was shell-shocked when he found signatures by doctors for even the next day’s date. Signatures of 22 doctors were also missing in the register. An angry Ramdas took the college in-charge principal Dr Chandramouli to task over the issue.

While the total number of doctors including permanent and contract is 96, 15 doctors employed on contract and four permanent doctors and two nursing staff were absent.
He immediately ordered notices to be issued against the absent staff. When Ramdas visited the storeroom, the amount of rice, pulses and vegetables shown in the register didn’t match with the actual stock. Also substandard rice and oil extracted tur dal was purchased. Furious about the irregularities, storeroom in-charge secretary  Thimmappagowda and storekeeper Nagamma were suspended.

He also visited the various wards of the hospital and took the doctors to task for the lack of facilities. He also vented ire against doctors for failing to use the operation room, which had been closed for more than a year. Ramdas said that several complaints about irregularities are taking place in the century-old hospital. Even though there are 250 beds in the hospital, only 120 to 140 patients are getting admitted. Observing that a few doctors treat only three to four patients a day, Ramdas said that an officer will be appointed and action will be taken based on the report prepared.

Minister appears in court; fined

The Fifth Junior Grade Court imposed a penalty of `250 against Medical Education and District In-Charge Minister S A Ramdas for failing to appear before the court for six times. A non-bailable warrant had been issued against Ramdas recently.

Judge Harini asked the reason for Ramdas’ failure to appear before the court, to which the minister said that due to lack of time and prior engagements owing to his role of responsibility, he couldn’t come to the court. A case had been registered on March 27, 2007 against Ramdas and his supporters for protesting and obstructing government duty. He had stopped the Mysore City Corporation Officials and gangmen from demolishing old buildings at Makkaji Chowk, on the day.
