Singh, who met Sonia Gandhi in Delhi on April 20 to extend an invitation to her for a family function, explained to the party chief how some undeserving persons have been made the new office-bearers, ignoring loyal party workers. The Congress in Karnataka needs the service of loyal workers, and they have to be given the responsibility to strengthen the party, he is learnt to have told Sonia.

The reconstitution of KPCC after a gap of 11 years has created an upheaval in the party. Some of the leaders had even threatened to quit. Senior leaders including Singh, Mallikharjuna Kharge, Veerappa Moily, B K Hari Prasad and Siddaramaiah were unhappy with the new State Congress team.

This prompted the party high command to summon KPCC chief G Parameshwara and Siddaramaiah to Delhi on Tuesday.
