Nadda, who is Gadkari's contemporary in the party, was a minister in Prem Kumar Dhumal government in Himachal Pradesh before he was made a general secretary by Gadkari when he took over as president.

The new spokesperson is articulate in Hindi and English. He has held important responsibilities as general secretary in the party. Recently he was asked by Gadkari to look into the cross-voting by seven of the BJP's 11 MLAs in Jammu and Kashmir in the recent Legislative Council polls.

Nadda is also a member of the BJP team for Jammu and Kashmir, which will visit the state and meet people from all sections of the society to discuss the problems of the state.

Gadkari also appointed a former party MP Om Prakash Kohli as in-charge of the party headquarters here. He will replace Shyam Jhaju, who has now been elevated to the post of national secretary.

Kohli, a party old-timer, has served the BJP in various capacities including as president of its Delhi unit.

Arun Dev has been made convenor of the Jhuggi-Jopdi cell of the BJP. He will be based in Mumbai.
