In press conference here on Thursday, he said the farmers in the state and elsewhere became the victims of the neglect of governments. Both the central and state governments failed to provide a fair price on farmers’ produce.

While, non-availability of seeds and improper distribution is adding to the woes. The cotton farmers have committed suicide in big numbers in the recent years due to low yield and less price quoted on their produce, owing to sub-standards seeds.

Hence, government can set up a seed bank to help the farmers avail seeds on time, he added.

Subsidy

Puttannaiah demanded the government to restore the subsidy on the chemical fertilisers. The state government has slashed the subsidy on the fertilisers due to which the farmers are forced to pay more.

The Rajya Raitha Sangha has appealed the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to bring out an agricultural policy to immediately resolve few crucial issues troubling the ryots all over India.

Support to Hazare

On Anna Hazare’s visit to Mysore, he said the members of Rajya Raitha Sangha will take part in Hazare’s programme. The Raitha Sangha has always fought against the corruption since past two decades.

It is right time that a crusader in Anna has begun to fight the corruption which has become rampant in the country. From the 2G scam, the CWG irregularities to the irregularities in land notification in the state, the corruption has become deep rooted in the country, he stated.

“The Raitha Sangha will show its solidarity and support to Hazare by taking part in his programme  in the district. We will join hands with Hazare to fight corruption at all levels,” Puttanaiah said.

Hefty donations

Commenting on the school and college admissions in city, the ryot leader alleged the Sadvidya and Marimallappa’s Educational Institutions of demanding hefty donations despite high merit.

“The district administration should act against these schools. The government can make a law bringing 25 per cent reservation for rural students in city schools and colleges,” he remarked.

He also demanded for a law to make test for HIV compulsory before any couple tie the nuptial knot.
