Rita spurns govt security cover

The government had deployed two police constables at Joshi’s residence but she returned them saying she did not have any faith in the state police.

“My house was torched by BSP supporters who were led by an MLA in the presence of the police. They remained mute spectators. How can they be trusted,” she asked. The state Congress president has also decided not to repair the house until a CBI inquiry, as being demanded by her, is recommended into the incident by the Mayawati government.

Meanwhile, the Allahabad High Court on Friday reserved its order on Joshi’s petition seeking quashing of the FIR against her and a CBI inquiry into the arson at her residence on July 15.
The Congress leader was booked under the stringent SC/ST Act besides other sections of the IPC. She is currently out on interim bail.
