Joshi accused of breaching public trust

Last Updated 28 April 2011, 19:20 IST

Referring to the draft report prepared by Joshi, which blamed Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his office of inefficient handling of the 2G spectrum allocation issue, and being misled by former telecom minister A Raja, senior Congress leader and Union Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal alleged that Joshi “tried cloak and dagger exercise” and said that "by his partisan acts, destroyed the confidence and trust of the people in a premier parliamentary institution.” Notably, earlier in the day, at the meeting of the PAC, 11 of 21 members belonging to Congress, DMK, Samajwadi Party (SP) and the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) gave a written note rejecting the draft prepared by Joshi, a veteran BJP leader.

As Joshi walked out of the meeting with Congress, DMK, SP and BSP members unwilling to hear his views, members of anti-Joshi group in PAC elected Congress MP Saifuddin Ahmad Soz as new PAC chairman.

A senior Congress leader, not willing to be named said “(Congress) party supports the election of Soz as new chairperson of PAC”.

Congress also accused Joshi of trying to press for the approval of the draft, which was rejected by a majority of PAC members.
