The old circuit house built in 1965 has eight rooms. Since this guest house is not suited for accommodating VIPs and VVIPs, they are forced to stay in private hotels.
The CM, during his visit to the district on August 13, 2010 had promised to allocate funds for construction of modern guest houses in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts. Likewise the CM released Rs 3 crore for Mangalore guest house. Public Works Department is constructing this guest house in a corporate style with six suites, one kitchen, one dining hall, a hall with 40 seating capacity, car park facilities etc.
