Anganwadi workers have accepted pension scheme

Last Updated 29 April 2011, 19:04 IST

Several doubts the anganwadi workers had about the scheme, particularly the investment of their pension funds in the stock market, have been cleared, the minister told reporters here on Thursday.

Patil said 75,000 of the 1.05 lakh anganwadi workers and helpers had registered for the scheme. The remaining 30,000 will soon follow suit, he added.

Assuring the workers that their money would be safe, the minister said only 15 per cent of the pension fund would be invested in the captial market and the remaining amount will be put in LIC, UTI and SBI.

“The scheme will be monitored by the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority. The pension funds of twelve lakh government employees across the country have been invested under this scheme, which includes the savings of the 75,000 State government employees,” he said.
