'Give courts info on repeat offenders'

Last Updated 30 April 2011, 18:06 IST

The order has been issued to ensure that a person accused in more than one case should not get bail easily.

“Repeat offenders are securing bail easily since the police are not furnishing comprehensive information on them to the courts. Hence it has been decided to collect all pertinent information relating to offenders involved in more than one offence and submit it to the court,” Shankar Bidari told Deccan Herald.

According to the order of the commissioner, police should check out for any warrants or proclamations whenever a person is arrested for any offence. The information should be submitted to the court also. Any failure attracts stringent action, the order warns.

Senior police officers opine that the court would consider all the material facts and in the event of any warrant pending, it may not be easy for the arrested to secure bail. Bidari said a database of all the offenders will be maintained at the City Crime department and asked the investigating officers to access the information.
