Flower show begins in Raja Seat

Take steps to acquire 5 acre land to develop Raja Seat, Speaker tells DC

Speaking at the flower show organised by the district administration, Zilla Panchayat, horticulture department and Raja Seat Development Committee here on Friday, he said once the land is acquired, then blue print for the expansion of the Raja Seat should be made ready.

The Tourism department has earmarked Rs 1.38 crore for the development of Raja Seat. If the district administration submits a proposal seeking additional fund to the government, then funds will be released, he promised.

He said there are ample opportunities for the promotion of tourism and industries which are eco-friendly in the district.  MLA M P Appachu Ranjan said that Madikeri is developing as tourist spot. Hence, pro development programmes should be chalked out.

The CMC should not give any scope for the construction of buildings which will come in the way of watching the natural scenray from Raja Seat. Earlier, the beauty of Madikeri could be viewed from sitting at Gandhi Maidan itself.  However, with the rise in buildings, the beauty could not be enjoyed from Gandhi Maidan, he lamented.

The horticulture department should open an office in the park and provide details to the tourists on how to grow ornamental plants with less expenditure.  Reacting to Speaker’s direction, Deputy Commissioner K H Ashwathanarayana Gowda said that measures will be taken to acquire land to extend Raja Seat. A meeting related to the promotion of tourism has been convened on May 10, he added. Madikeri CMC President H M Nandakumar, ZP CEO N Krishnappa and others were present.
