Milan, in their first season under coach Massimiliano Allegri, took an unassailable nine-point lead over bitter rivals Inter Milan, champions for the last five seasons and the only team who could catch them before the start of the weekend.

Inter have three matches left but, even if they caught Milan, Leonardo's side would still lose out on their head-to-head record which decides the title if teams finish level on points.

Cristiano Ronaldo scored four goals as Real Madrid romped to a 6-2 La Liga win at Sevilla on Saturday to deny Barcelona the chance to wrap up the title when they host Espanyol on Sunday.

Real are in second place on 83 points with three matches left, five points short of leaders Barca who have Sunday's game in hand. A double from Roberto Soldado helped Valencia to a 3-0 home win over Real Sociedad that gave them 66 points in third place, which offers qualification for next season's Champions League.

At the bottom, a 2-0 defeat for Almeria at Getafe meant they were relegated while second from bottom Hercules are close to joining them after a 3-2 defeat by Racing Santander.
