'Suvarna Bhoomi not useful to Koppa farmers'

He was speaking at the Hariharapura hobli-level Janaspandana programme at Bilagadde in Koppa.

The scheme is for 10 lakh farmers in the district. This includes 3 lakh farmers from SC, 2 lakh from horticulture crops, one lakh for farmers growing fruits, 50,000 farmers engaged in pisciculture, one lakh farmers growing Bt cotton, and one lakh farmers growing bio-fuel crops. However, arecanut growers can not claim the benefit of the scheme.

Tahsildar Lingappa Gowda said the revenue department has already prepared a list of the small farmers. Farmers who have small holdings will be benefited from the scheme.

However, the government has not sent any circular on the inclusion of arecanut growers in the scheme.

Kuppali Sudhakar said the authorities have failed to initiate action against wild animals which destroy crops. Though the forest department had assured of constructing trench and laying electric fence, no action has been taken so far.
