Go Green is their mantra

The army launched by MCC Mayor Praveen at Gandhi Nagar Park on Monday is all set to splash the city green with the tree planting drive that will have 22,000 saplings planted under the aegis of MCC.

The army will also organise shramadaans, beach cleaning drives and involve themselves in various other initiatives such as solid waste and e-waste management.

The army that consists of NSS volunteers from different colleges that come under Mangalore University have been given a green T Shirt sponsored by Malabar Gold as their uniform.
Speaking to Deccan Herald a Green Army Volunteer Priyanka from Roshni Nilaya said that she along with her college mates organise various street plays on important issues. With concrete jungle cropping up, it is high time to go green she says and adds that with green army one can promote clean and hygienic environment.

MCC Commissioner Dr K N Vijaypraksash said that these green soldiers will help in implementing various eco-friendly drives launched by MCC and will involve in Information, Education and Communication (IEC) activities.

e-Parisara

Speaking about the e-waste drive MCC Commissioner said that the electronic junk will be collected at various points and will be stored in a safe area in Pachchanady dump yard.

Once the junk hits 1 tonne it will be shifted to a plant ‘e-Parisara’ approved by Karnataka Pollution Control Board for recycling, he adds.
