Govt plans meet on fashion hub shortly

Official sources told Deccan Herald that the third round of meetings with people drawn from Bangalore’s fashion faternity, National Institute of Fashion Technology, Apparel Export Promotion Council et al, other leading garmet exporters, will be held this month-end to finalise the concept and give concrete shape to the prestigious project.

In this regard, they said, a round table wherein leading fashion designers, schools, and institutes besides officials concerned from various sectors, will be participating, is also being organised to elicit necessary insights and inputs on developing the fashion hub before inviting proposals from the private players to set up the project.

Pointing out that virtually all the top global and national brands are being man ufactured from Bangalore, it was felt that setting up a fashion hub would further catalyse the garment sector in the State. The hub, sources said, envisages a one-stop shop for global buyers and sellers and one of the likely spots identified includes near the Bangalore International Airport.

The State government’s textile ministry has budgetary funds of Rs 500 crore to be spent over five years towards setting up of the fashion hub.
