Dakshina Kannada pushed to 21st position in SSLC

Dakshina Kannada, which had come out with flying colours this year in the PUC results by securing II place in the State, has been pushed to 21st position (78.30%) in the district-wise ranking list of the SSLC results. The district, which has witnessed a wide fluctuation in SSLC results over the past six years, has seen a severe setback over the last year’s ranking where the district stood in the 8th position.

However, the district has seen a remarkable increase in the total pass percentage compared to that of last year. The pass percentage of the candidates in Dakshina Kannada previous year was 72.75 per cent while it has seen a leap of 8 pc this year.
As many as 34,296 students had appeared for the exam.

Responding to the result, Deputy Director of Public Instructions Chame Gowda said the district has performed better compared to the previous year. “We are happy over the result as the number of students with distinction and first class is quite high. The district has slipped to 21st position, because the other districts have performed better than usual,” he remarked.

The top scorers

Amidst the disappointment, the district has every reason to cheer with two students becoming second toppers in the State. Koodlu Anujna, a student of Rotary English Medium High School, Moodbidri and Rashmi Parvathi from Vivekanada English Medium School, Puttur, have scored 619 (99.04%). A Canara High School student Harsha Bhat has secured 615 marks, while Rotary English Medium High School, Moodbidri, student Varsha K has scored 610 marks. Vibha, a student from SDM English Medium Highschool, Ujire has topped the school with 607 (97.12%).

SVS school jubilant

Five students from Sri Venkataramana School, Bantwal, have shown a remarkable performance in the exam. Adithya H R has topped the school with 616 marks (98%). The other students with maximum marks are Pavithra-611 (97%), Sudarshan- 610 (97%), Varalakshmi-608 (97%), Vijaya R Nayak-606 (96%), Ramya Prashasti- 603 (96%) and Govind M Prabhu- 603 (96%).

Alva’s 100 pc

Alva’s Kannada Medium High School has achieved 100 pc result for the second consecutive year.

A son of a farmer from Ankola Rajesh Venkanna Nayaka has topped the school by securing 605 marks (96.8 pc). He has expressed his wish to pursue Science in PUC and become an engineer.

St Ann’s

Aishwarya S K (609) and Neha Pinto (605), both students have St Ann’s High School have brought laurels to their school. Neha is daughter of St Aloysius College Vice Principal Prof Ronald Pinto and FMCI Medical Microbiology Professor Hilda Pinto.

Udupi grabs 6th place

Udupi district has recorded the pass percentage of 84.4 in the SSLC examinations, grabbing 6th position in the State.

Speaking to Deccan Herald, DDPI Mahidas informed that district had scored 4th rank with 77.4% passing result during last year and has dropped to 6th place this year. However, percentage-wise the district has shown satisfactory result. There is a hike of 7% when compared to last year’s results, he said.

Krathika Bhat from St. Cicely’s College Udupi and Vishaka from Bhuvanendra High School Karkala have scored 615 each. R Daksha P Sutar from Olakadu Government Composite High School, Udupi and Abhay Nayak from St Mary’s High School has scored 613 each. Navya S Rai from St Cicely’s College Udupi has got 612 and Anusha C Shetty from Viveka English Medium High School has scored 611.
