CMC plans to generate power from waste

Bestowed with Green Leaf Award for effective solid waste management measures, the CMC has already introduced systematic way of collection of wastes. Door-to-door collection of wastes from houses has been introduced in few wards. The local body has been always in the fore front towards adopting measures aiding cleanliness and beautification of the city.

Speaking to Deccan Herald, CMC President Kiran Kumar informed the process is in the initial phase as expression of interest has been called for the purpose. Interested parties should apply with the entire details comprising the procedure of generating power, project cost, and maintenance and so on. Consequently, depending on the information procured, the CMC will call for the tender. The company or the individual party will be known only after the scrutiny of the tenders, he said.

It is up to the party to substantiate its capabilities to generate power from solid waste. “Besides, we also have to assess the incurring expenses and the returns and later take a decision on producing power,” he said.

When contacted, CMC Commissioner Gokuldas Nayak informed that as many as two expressions of interest have been received from the parties and the proposal contains their competence of generating power from solid wastes. “The CMC is scrutinising the proposals and depending on which tender will be called shortly for the purpose,” he added.
