Cong jittery as Jagan fast for farmers

Azad rushed to Hyderabad for damage control

As anticipated, six legislators from the Congress and TDP attended the meeting in Guntur under pandals erected in a 13 acre area to accommodate and shelter farmers and Jaganmohan’s supporters from the scorching summer sun.

MLAs Balineni Srinivasa Reddy, Sucharitha, Srikanth Reddy, P Ramakrishna Reddy, Nallapureddy Prasanna Kumar Reddy , MLCs Jupudi Prabhakar Rao, Pulla Padmavathi, Tippareddy and Member of Parliament Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy were among the prominent leaders to attend the ‘deeksha’.

Around 12 pm, Jaganmohan garlanded the photo of his late father Y S Rajasekhara Reddy and launched the fast. Lakhs of farmers from all over the state have come to greet him for the concern he has shown on them.

Jaganmohan’s wishlist for farmers include: Corpus fund of Rs 1,000 crore for immediate purchase of food grains, supply of sufficient numbers of gunny bags, additional payment of Rs 100 per quintal for paddy and facilities for farmers at market yards.

The Congress high command is rushing AICC General Secretary Ghulam Nabi Azad to Hyderabad for a two-day damage control mission on Monday, following the severe beating of the party candidates in the hands of Jaganmohan and his mother Vijaylakshmi.

Azad is slated to interact with MPs, MLAs, MLCs and party functionaries to assess the reason for divisions in the state unit. He will also evolve a strategy to take on YSR’s son.
