The slaughter houses are currently located near the KSRTC, Gundlupet Circle and Deviation road in Chamarajanagar city. The dust rising from the vehicles is contaminating the meat because of which are hesitating to buy chicken and mutton from the shops. The onus of setting up hygienic slaughter houses is on the City Municipal Council. A shop with good aeration and proper water supply and underground drainage should be constructed for selling meat. This would help check contamination. Moreover, the shops should not be located in the heart of city, but preferably on the outskirts, opine locals. But, the local administration has failed to consider all these factors.

Currently, the meat shop owners have set up the shops as per their convenience, where there is no system to discard the waste parts. The feathers and other parts of the chicken are thrown in the premises of government primary school premises. These vendors also feed pieces of meat to the stray dogs and this has resulted in the increase of stray dogs in the whole area. At present, there are around 16 shops constructed adjoining the KSRTC bus stand. The place is already congested and there is no proper UGD system. Water is supplied on every alternate days.

The CMC has painted the shops, but has failed to sink borewell, which is need of the hour. The traders say that the CMC should provide basic amenities which would benefit the vendors. The residents are already facing pig menace thus creating unhygenic atmosphere in the entire area. A separate place should be identified for rearing pigs. The administration should immediately take steps in this measure to create healthy environment, say the citizens.
