Background

A tractor belonging to one group arrived to plough and ready the disputed land on the outskirts of the village. A group belonging to the other community objected to the arrival of the tractor. They questioned the driver as police had already declared the land disputed and had prohibited entry. A verbal duel led to clash between the supporters of two groups. A group also damaged the tractor.

Police said that a land measuring 2.38 acres was allotted to a man belonging to a Scheduled Caste.

However, the man collected money from a person belonging to the Naidu community and gave a written undertaking to sell the land. However, a dispute arose and matter is before the court, they added. The Bethamangala police had directed the people belonging to both communities not to enter the land.

The situation was controlled after police arrived at the spot. Ramappa, Krishnappa, Gangamma, Chinnakka, Devaraju, Babu and Muniyappa belonging to one community were injured. While in the other community Ramesh, Sriramulu Naidu, Doreswamy Naidu, Venkatswamy Naidu, Rajagopal, Prabhakar and Nagaraj were injured.
