BJP relaunching Operation 'Lotus' to save its govt

Four MLAs, two of the Congress and two of the JD(S) in Gulbarga and Yadgir districts are ready to join the saffron party, sources said.

Congress MLAs Baburao Chinchansur of Gurmatkal constituency in Yadgir district and Malikayya Guttedar of Afzalpur are certain to join the BJP, sources said.

JD(S) MLA Aruna Patil Revur of the Gulbarga South constituency is learnt to have decided to join the ruling party following a telephone call from Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa on Sunday.

Aland legislator Subhash Guttedar, who is the JD(S) State vice-president, is also likely to defect to the BJP, sources say.

When contacted, however, all the legislators denied they were joining the BJP.
Anticipating that the BJP would try to lure MLAs from the JD(S), party State president H D Kumaraswamy and his brother H D Revanna, were in constant touch with Revur family, to ensure that Arun Patil did not cross over.

Malikayya Guttedar, who had openly rebelled against the senior Congress leaders – former chief minister Dharam Singh and Union Minister for Labour Mallikarjun Kharge –– is likely to announce his affiliation to the BJP formally on Wednesday. Sources said BJP leaders are working through Harshanand Guttedar, son of Subhash Guttedar, who quit the JD(S) to join the BJP to become vice-president of the Zilla Panchayat, to get his father to join the ruling party.
