Addressing a press meet here, they said the Lokayukta should inspect the quality of works being undertaken in the city. “If the CMC members had not taken the contract for development works in fake name, let them convene a special meeting and take a decision to ask Lokayukta to inspect the development works undertaken in the city.”

Few members have taken the contract for development works in fake name. “Though we had filed a complaint with the Deputy Commissioner urging to blacklist the contractor after inspecting the work, no action has been taken so far. Materials worth Rs 50 lakh to Rs 60 lakh was auctioned for Rs 25,000, thus incurring loss to the CMC,” they added.

“About 11 acre land was earmarked for ashraya layout in Indira extension. However, drainages have not been laid in the layout. Only trenches have been dug. A sum of Rs 50,000 would have been utilised for digging trenches. However, in the estimate list, a sum of Rs 9.73 lakh has been shown and Rs 10.20 lakh billing was done for the trenches,” they alleged.

They said “there were no trees in the layout. False documents have been created to show that trees have been cut to claim the bill.  AIT College lecturer had inspected the tree cutting work.”

The CMC members said a sum of Rs 1.80 lakh has been spent for the maintenance of the supply of drinking water from Yagachi backwater in the last two years.

“In the name of water, funds are being unnecessarily utilised for motor repair and installation of pipeline. The tender process for purchasing a motor worth Rs 50 lakh is under progress. A motor costs between Rs 20 lakh to Rs 22 lakh. A sum of Rs 50 lakh has been spent for installing 405 sodium lamps in the city. However, if one counts, you will not get 405 sodium lamps,” they said.
