Advocate gets show-cause notice for luring voters

Durga Prasad, contesting the KSBC poll scheduled for the first week of June, has been served the notice following a complaint by the Sirsi Advocates Association (SAA), Returning Officer (RO) Sathyamurthi Holla said. “We have directed the advocate to reply immediately,” he said.

In a written complaint to the KSBC, the SAA said Prasad had gifted a photocopier to the Association and fixed a day for inauguration on April 20, 2011.

“Prasad tried to lure voters by gifting them the machine,” the Sirsi advocates noted in their complaint.

Stating that Prasad has violated the election code of conduct, the advocates have sought action against him besides cancellation of his membership. KSBC former president Sadashiv
Reddy said Prasad had also tried to lure voters in Madikeri and Karwar by gifting them photocopying machines. Holla said the matter would be referred to the election tribunal.
