Aircraft suffers tyre burst, passengers escape unhurt

Last Updated 17 May 2011, 17:11 IST

The flight scheduled to leave Shamshabad International airport on Tuesday at 7 am did not take off as the pilot noticed that one of the rear tyres of the Boeing 767 wide bodied aircraft burst while gaining the critical momentum to take off from the runway.

The pilot immediately informed the Air traffic control tower and applied brakes. “Had the pilot continued with the take off, the burst tyre would have driven the aircraft off balance and hit the side walls,” a passenger said. Those  who were supposed to catch connecting flights at Mumbai and then again at Heathrow airports were then shifted to hotels as the long haul aircraft needed a thorough check up, which may take several hours. While Nagarjuna and crew returned to the city, many have taken connecting domestic flights to Mumbai.
