Wild elephant kills estate worker

C Raju (65) who was working at the BKC Estate for the last 25 years, was sweeping the area in front of his house, when he was confronted by the elephant which crushed him under its feet, neighbours said.

Assistant Conservator of Forests Alexander and Range Forest Officer Gopalakrishna visited the spot and paid Rs 5,000 to Raju’s family for his funeral. Thithimathi Grama Panchayat also paid Rs 2,000.

Speaker K G Bopaiah spoke to the bereaved family members over the phone, and assured that Rs 3.5 lakh - the compensation amount for elephant attack victims - would be paid soon to them.
