Man sets wife ablaze

Relatives of the victim Madhuri said her husband Erappa was harassing her constantly for dowry. On Sunday, he set her on fire. She was rushed by neighbours to a hospital where she died on Tuesday, police said.

Girl ends life

Ruchi (22) allegedly hanged herself from the ceiling of her house on Kingston Road on Monday. The police have registered a case of unnatural death, and are questioning her husband Prashanth.

Woman dies of burns

A 25-year-old woman, who allegedly suffered third-degree burns after she accidentally caught fire while cooking, died at Victoria Hospital late on Monday night. On May 7, Praseela, a resident of Govindapura in Whitefield, was cooking food in their house when the accident occurred.

Temple burgled

Burglars allegedly broke into a Saneshwara temple on 2nd Main, Thyagaraj Nagar, on Monday night, and made off with cash kept in a dumb box (hundi). Parthasarthy, the temple trustee, reported to the police that the thieves had entered the temple through the rear door. They have taken only currency notes amounting to lakhs of rupees, and gold ornaments, and left behind coins and silver articles. The dumb box had not been opened for the last six months.

One held for murder

Rajagopalnagar police have arrested a person in connection with a murder case. The suspect was identified as Shankar (24) from Laggere. He hails from Gulbarga.

According to the police, Shankar’s mother Mariyamma had borrowed Rs 5,000 from Muniswamy. However, Mariyamma had failed to return the money.

Shankar kept demanding money from Muniswamy’s son Rajashekhar, an auto driver by profession, but Rajashekhar had bought some time. There were several fights between Rajashekhar had Shankar over the same issue.

Shankar decided to settle scores with Rajashekhar for having failed to return the money. He travelled by Rajashekhar’s auto on April 12 and allegedly stabbed him to death and absconded.
