Strauss-Kahn on suicide watch: report

Last Updated 04 May 2018, 01:48 IST

The report on the NBC New York website quoted an unnamed source saying that Strauss-Kahn, 62, is being checked every 15 to 30 minutes and has been clothed in a jumpsuit and shoes with no laces to minimize the chances of him killing himself.

However, a spokesman for the New York Department of Correction would only say that all inmates were kept under "the same protocol for the safety and security."

"The protocol dictates that every inmate is assessed for risk of harm to themselves and risk of harm to others," a statement said. "All inmate health records are confidential under the law."

Strauss-Kahn, the head of the International Monetary Fund and a leading French politician tipped as a presidential front-runner for 2012, is being held at Rikers Island detention facility.

He is accused of sexually assaulting a maid at the Sofitel in Times Square on Saturday. He denies all charges.
