JOIN USEast Bengal earned a hard fought 3-2 win against defending champions Dempo SC, while Salgaocar had a smooth sailing against the young guns of Indian Arrows registering a 3-1 victory in their last encounters.
Salgaocar currently enjoy the top spot with 50 points in their kitty from 24 matches, while East Bengal are placed third with 47 points from 22 matches. The win against Dempo has definitely strengthened the Kolkata giants’ position in the title race as they have four matches left in their hand as compared to their opponents who are in a must-win situation in their remaining two matches.
East Bengal beat Karim Bencherifa’s boys at Kolkata when they managed a 1-0 victory over the Goan outfit.
Three points remains a priority for both the teams and, Salgaocar will look to capitalise on the fact that East Bengal will be missing three key defenders — Nirmal Chhetri, Gurwinder Singh and Uga Okpara due to one-match suspension.
