Speaking to media persons, Noida farmers accused the U P government of acquiring land from farmers and giving it to builders. They charged that the agricultural land was being acquired at a very low price only to be handed over to builders to make them earn crores.

They allege that bureaucrats and politicians are given bribe for facilitating the acquisition process. They likened the alleged land scam to 2G spectrum scam.

Farmers had gathered under the banner of Medha Patkar led National Alliance of People’s
Movement and the local farmers’ organisation Bhumi Adhigrahan Pratirodh Andolan. They demanded high compensation with a good stake in the commercial projects proposed on their land.

According to farmers, the fertile land is being acquired for projects like high-tech city, formula-one track or Golf course. Farmers from a village close to Chief Minister Mayawati’s village alleged that land acquired for industries was being used to beautify the areas around Badalpur in Ghaziabad, where her posh bungalow is coming up.
