Addressing media persons here on Sunday, he said the farmers will be given 50 per cent subsidy.

“As a result of Chief Whip D N Jeevaraj’s discussion with the Chief Minister, it has been decided to credit the subsidy amount for the copper sulphate purchased from co-operative societies such as Mamcos, Campco and Lamp,” he said.

He said it has been noticed that even though the scheme is being implemented though the tender system, the contractors have taken up the task quoting higher rates. “Those people have been asked to supply copper sulphate at Rs 113 per kg. Farmers can avail the subsidy by submitting the RTC copy, the bill for the purchased copper sulphate and an application in the specified format,” Ramaswamy informed.

“The facility can be availed by those who have already made the purchase also. The district had received Rs 2.5 crore last year under the Horticulture Mission. This year, only Rs 45 lakh has been given, keeping areca outside the horticulture crops,” he added.

BJP’s Kesave Shantaram and Hosur Dinesh were present at the press meet.
