All India open chess tourney concludes

3rd Mangalore FIDE rated All India Open Chess Tournament 2009, that concluded here on Monday witnessed a lot of excitement mainly because of the number of unrated players, many of them little kids, who made their presence felt.

According to the chief Arbitrator Praful Zaveri, 40 out of the 91 unrated players in the tournament have found their way to the FIDE rating list. Speaking at the valedictory function he said that players had come from 22 different states, making the tournament a grand success.

GM of Corporation Bank B R Bhat, DGM of Karnataka Bank P R S Holla and Managing Trustee of Sharavu Mahaganapathy temple Raghavendra Shastry were the guests of honour on the occasion while President of United Karnataka Chess Association Achutananda Reddy presided. President of South Kanara District Chess Association M S Gururaj, Secretary Syble Lydia D’Cunha and others were present.
