Union Ministers G.K. Vasan, V. Narayanasamy, Tamil Nadu Congress chief K.V. Thangkabalu, former union minister E.V.K.S. Elangovan and party cadres paid floral tributes at Rajiv Gandhi’s memorial at Sriperumbudur, around 40 km from here.

A flame was also brought to the memorial by the labour wing of Karnataka Congress. The partymen distributed free dhotis and sarees to the poor and books to under-privileged school students at Sriperumbudur.

At the party’s state headquarters here, party workers offered flowers at the portrait of the late leader.

Pilot-turned-politician Rajiv Gandhi was killed May 21, 1991 at an election rally in Sriperumbudur when a young Tamil Tiger woman guerrilla, strapped with explosives, blew herself up near him.
