Kanakapura: Debt-ridden farmer kills himself

The name of the deceased is given as Shekhar (26).
Shekhar had borrowed loan from Sri Ram Finance for the purchase of tractor, three years ago.

The vehicle was seized by the recovery agent as Shekhar failed to repay the amount. It is said that the firm served him a notice demanding repayment of the entire sum borrowed and warning legal action.

A frightened Shekhar ended his life by jumping into the lake on Sunday night.
The family members of the deceased have lodged a complaint with the Harohalli police.
Tahsildar Ravi N Tirlapur visited the family and paid Rs 1,000 for final rites.

Meanwhile, Mallikarjun, secretary of the Bahujan Samaj Party district unit has alleged that a few middlemen were cheating farmers by promising them to secure loans.

He has demanded action against the finance company as well as the recovery agent.
