Vijayanand Kashappanavar is the son of ex-MLA of Hungund and former minister S R Kashappanavar, who died in 2003 in a road accident.

Three months ago, the 12th Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate ordered the issue of an arrest warrant under the Sanjaynagar police station for Vijayanand.

In the three months that have passed, police have refused to involve themselves, even as his residence is supposed to be very close to the police station.

Political lineage

Not only is the police wary of his political lineage, but Vijayanand’s own strong political connections are keeping them quiet over the warrant.

Dinesh R, a resident of Koramangala and a family friend of the Kashappanavars, had filed a complaint in Court stating that Vijayanand had borrowed Rs 32 lakh from him over several months in 2009, for assistance in his granite export business.

Vijayanand later issued a cheque for the borrowed amount, but when Dinesh presented it to his bank in October 2009, the cheque was returned unpaid due to insufficient finds.

Notice issued

When Vijayanand was issued a notice for the dishonour of the cheque, he admitted issuing the cheque, but denied any liability for it.

Subsequently, the Court directed the issue of arrest warrant on February 2, 2011.
It is not as if Vijayanand is in hiding. While he maintains a residence at Judicial Officers Layout in Sanjaynagar most of the time, he is in Hungund at present. The man who has an unpaid loan of Rs 32 lakh is in Hungund getting ready with preparations for his brother Devanand’s marriage in Hungund.

According to sources close to the Kashappanavar family, the wedding is being celebrated with great pomp. The marriage will be celebrated along with mass marriage for 150 couples and just the onstage decorations for the wedding is costing the family Rs 35 lakh.

About one lakh people are expected to attend the wedding and every person in Hungund is supposed to have been invited.

The family is hoping to rival the wedding organised by the BJP leader Doddana Gowda Patil last year.
