The incident occurred at Manda, 50 kms from the city, late last night when the boat ferrying 11 people, all of them residents of village Dengupur, overturned in the mid river after stormy winds lashed the area, they said.
The boatman and one of the villagers who had hired the boat, swam to safety, police said.
Two bodies were fished out of the river early this morning after a four-hour-long search while eight persons are yet to be traced, police added
