Moved by her quivering act of sacrifice, Jayalalitha, who ensured treatment for the woman at Apollo Hospitals in Chennai, also blessed her with a job.

The woman from Thondi in Ramanathapuram district in south Tamil Nadu has met Jayalalitha at the Secretariat here. The chief minister appointed Saritha as a noon-meal centre assistant in her village, which wil ensure her a monthly income of Rs 2,077.

A die-hard fan of Jayalalitha, Saritha, mother of two girls and deserted by husband, cut off her tongue to offer to the goddess at the Gowriamman Temple in Theni. She was admitted to Rajaji Government Hospital in Madurai by villagers.

On hearing the news, Jayalalitha immediately directed that she be admitted to Apollo Hospitals in Chennai, where a plastic surgery was performed on the patient. The chief minister has already paid the hospital charges from the Dr MGR Trust besides giving her a cash assistance of Rs 1 lakh, official sources said.
