Bagair hukum farmers to hold rally

During a convention on Wednesday, the Karnataka Pranta Raitara Sangha president Maruthi Manpade accused the State of being a land grabbing government.

He added that instead of sanctioning land to the Bagair hukum farmers, who were cultivating these land for decades, the government was grabbing the land and creating a land bank so that it would give away 5,000-10,000 acres of land to multi national companies in the Agriculture Investment Meet to be held in November, 2011.

The farmers also expressed concern over the increase in ar BBMP limits. The farmers felt that with no proper documents to say the land belonged to them, the BBMP could claim the land.

G C Bayyareddy, state secretary of the Sangha, said that over 37,315 applications from the three districts of Bangalore urban, rural and Ramanagara, were pending with the revenue department for transfer of land rights for the last 20 years.

The total land that needs to be regularised came to 93,114 acres.  However, the government had been ignoring the issue for all these years, he said. While these farmers have khata, the original documents were with the government.
