Last Updated 26 May 2011, 15:49 IST

Addressing media here on Thursday, S Prakash, Janata Dal (Secular) K R Constituency president questioned the rationale behind the programme, the brain child of Medical Education and District In-charge Minister S A Ramdas.

The minister had earlier launched several programmes, claiming to be people friendly; Kshetra Rakshana Samithi, Post Card Campaign, Gift Bank among others.

But, they met early death without reaching all. Prakash mocked at the minister saying that the latter during previous Deepavali festival had distributed fire crackers to select kids from poor families.

The minister had announced that he would form a ‘Gift Bank’ and will donate all the gifts received to the bank, besides wooing people from elite background to do their mite.

The gifts collected will be distributed among the kids hailing from economically weaker sections, once in every three months.

The bank still remains a promise and the minister has launched yet another- Akshara..., It’s nothing but a gimmick, Prakash rued.

He demanded the minister to make public the status of those programmes, or face protests intended at highlighting his failure to keep up the promises.
